New Reusable Bags at Just Food!

Did you know that:
14 disposable plastic bags contain enough petroleum to drive a car 1 mile
17 cents is the cost for many cities to dispose of 1 bag
380 billion plastic bags and sacks are thrown away in the U.S. each year

Reusable Bags Save:
140 city dollars spent on disposal
11 pounds of garbage
832 disposable bags
60 miles worth of gas
(Based on using one bag 2 times per week
for 2 years.)

Now you can get your very own Go Co-op! non-woven polypropylene (NWPP) grocery bag for only 99¢ at Just Food Co-op! NWPP is a flexible, virgin plastic material with a texture similar to surgical cloth. NWPP is recyclable (marked #5), non-toxic, allergy-free and non-reactive to human skin. The bags are machine washable in cold water (line dry).

You might wonder what took us so long to provide an NWPP bag. No doubt you have seen similar bags sold elsewhere. NWPP bags are made in China and we held out for a supplier who could provide reliable assurances that fair labor practices were used in production.

Our new Go Co-op! bags were manufactured in a Chinese facility partnered with Verité. Verité is an independent, non-profit, socially responsible auditing, training, capability building and research organization established in 1995. Their mission is to ensure that people worldwide work under safe, fair and legal working conditions. They achieve this by partnering with corporations, NGOs, governments, and international institutions. Their experience spans over 70 countries and territories. Recognized for their entrepreneurial approach to problemsolving and business and workplace expertise, Verité implements programs to ensure that workers around the world have access to the resources required to reshape their lives.
