Acupressure for Headaches, Tired Eyes, and Sore Shoulders

When we are feeling stressed too much energy can get stuck in the shoulders and then move up into the head causing pain. Could you use a few new relaxation techniques in your bag of self-care tricks to combat headaches? Learn three acupressure points to open up the energy channels in the head and eyes.  You will also discover three points on the shoulders to relax and open the energy channels, which aids relaxation and also digestion. These techniques can be done on yourself or on others.  Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to leave feeling better than when you arrived. Instructor Mary Zelmer is a Certified Spring Forest Qigong Teacher, Master Healer, and advanced student of Chunyi Lin, founder of SFQ.

CODEX: Its Impact on GMO Labeling and Supplements

CODEX is an international UN Food Safety body of 182 countries making global guidelines for food safety. The current debates about labeling GMOs and debate about the safety of vitamins and minerals are key topics. Learn how these issues could affect the supplements you use. Presenter Diane Miller is the Legal and Public Policy Director for National Health Freedom Coalition and it’s sister lobbying organization, National Health Freedom Action. A Day of Canning Basics

Sunday Sept.18, 9:30am-5ish at the Cristofaro-Hark’s Farm at 4133 Millersburg Blvd, Lonsdale.

Transition Northfield says:

“Join us for a day of canning tomatoes! Gain the skills to enjoy your garden through the winter and come away with several jars to take home. We will be providing ingredients grown without chemicals from Spring Wind Farm, as well as canning supplies and equipment.

“All levels of experience with food preservation are welcome. There will be hand-outs, books and ideas to share. Everyone is welcome!

“The first 13 paid registrants will have their space held. Suggested donation for the class is $20.00 to cover costs of canning supplies, ingredients and LP  gas for the outdoor cookers. Please bring your own lunch, water bottle and sunscreen.”

Build a Root Cellar with the SEEDS Farm August 20th 10am-5pm

Interested in learning about root cellars? How about building your own root cellar? Join the SEEDS (Social Entrepreneurship, Environmental Design and Stewardship) Team in building a root cellar on their farm site! Learn about the benefits of root cellars, such as saving energy and extending the shelf life of local produce, while participating in the step-by-step building process. Work alongside local farmers and community members. The cellar will help to supply Northfield and the Food Shelf with local produce throughout the winter and has the potential to change the way our foodshed operates.
