For many customers and Owners at Just Food, this is a long awaited event – the expansion of Just Food Co-op!

Just Food has been planning this expansion for many years, through several General Managers and it almost seems fitting that in the middle of a literal pandemic, this expansion project will take place. These last few months have reinforced the need for Just Food to remain viable in the downtown area and has shown the Co-op the community’s desire for great food at affordable prices. They have been able to serve a diverse community, keep good food in people’s homes, doing so in an entirely too small space.

“It has been my joy to be leading this organization into the expansion project,” said Sherri Meyers, Just Food’s General Manager. “I’m so thankful for the team of dedicated employees that have worked through this pandemic and this is the perfect team to lead us through this long awaited expansion.”

While much of the business was able to turn quickly and provide groceries curbside, their very small deli simply was not able to receive enough product to produce the types of food that many were looking for – heat and eat. With an unreliable oven, a very tight workspace, and aging and failing coolers – the deli department was the department that suffered the greatest losses at the store during this pandemic. The deli is also the department that will get the biggest facelift and an entirely new space in the store. One that will be well equipped to serve great food to our community!

The 4000 square foot sales floor will grow to approximately 6000 square feet and will offer wider aisles that will allow a more comfortable shopping experience. There will be a Kombucha keg, a large prepared foods section, the ability to offer more local foods as well as serve the wider community much more effectively.

Just Food is very proud to be a part of the Northfield community and can not wait to Grow Together!

Groundbreaking is set for Monday, July 13th and will be streamed via their Facebook page at 10am. Just Food asks that community members not congregate for the event, and attendance at the actual ceremony is invitation only due to COVID19.
